EURORDIS welcomes European Parliament draft report calling for a European Action Plan on Rare Diseases

5 March 2026, BrusselsEURORDIS–Rare Diseases Europe welcomes the draft report presented by MEP Nicolás González Casares, Member of the European Parliament Committee on Public Health (SANT), calling on the European Commission to propose legislation establishing a European Rare Disease Action Framework.

The draft report recognises that rare diseases affect an estimated 27–36 million people across the European Union, yet around 95% of rare conditions still lack an authorised treatment, while many patients face long diagnostic delays and unequal access to care depending on where they live.

For EURORDIS, the report represents an important step forward in the long-standing effort to establish a coordinated EU strategy for rare diseases.
